  • "I have always had monogamous relationships with my mobile phones. From my first Nokia, which I kept by my side for almost 10 years, stoically resisting all the flashing and chirruping of the changing technology around me, right up to now and my precious i-Phone. So I approached LG's new Chocolate with caution. I scowled at its' easy-to-read screen and multi-functions. I frowned as I discovered it has a 5 mega pixel camera and a video camera - a proper video camera - with sharp, clear pictures and contrast and zoom function.
I suppressed a sigh of joy at the fact that it has the predictive texting layout rather than the finger-fumbling qwerty alphabet. Oh, it goes sideways, its' functions spinning colourfully across the screen in a touch-powered list. And doesn't this wide screen make internet pages so much more readable? And from this angle, doesn't it look rather like a chic, Art Deco cigarette case? Oh dear. I had been seduced.
  • LG has made a phone which offers the world dominating i-Phone some pretty stiff competition. It has all the bells and whistles expected from modern technology, (is it a phone? A computer? An MP3 player? A gaming device? In this case, all four), but, and this is key and worth repeating: it's really easy to use. Really easy to use. And since the bleeping, buzzing heartbeat of technology now drives all our lives, wouldn't it be nice if it was on our side? If our phone-cum-media-hub was something that helped rather than hindered? Let's just say I think I'm ready for a new relationship."

  • "Another new phone ? So soon ?"
Well actually this new LG phone is rather a tremendous piece of kit, I have to say. It's taken the interactive nature of this new generation of phones to a new level, and done this in a very particular way.
It is an especially stylish phone too: it's glossy, chic, and incredibly thin, like a supermodel almost! Not only this but the wide screen display, with its distinctive ratio, is a genuine innovation.
Most phones at the moment tend to simply ape the functionality and design of the iPhone, but the LG phone seems to have moved off in another direction, which is most gratifying.
  • I actually rather like the fact that it doesn't really feel like a phone at all. And for what it's worth I like it a lot more than the i-Phone."

  • "Having spent three years using the world's dullest business smartphone I was more than ready to introduce a little design panache to my telephonic world.
Initially I was simultaneously seduced and baffled by the purity of the Chocolate's shape and its incredibly glossy black screen - first impressions are that it could be a remote control unit for the world's best hi-fi, perhaps because it has a reassuring feeling of quality that puts one in mind of a Steinway piano key. However, on closer inspection the brick red flashes at either end of the phone both help make it possible to find in the bottom of a bag and contrast spectacularly with the black.
To my mind the way a phone looks is just as important as the way that it works, and the Chocolate looks perfect, striking in an understated way.
  • Of course the real fun begins when you fire it up and start to play. The touch screen, which gives a barely perceptible buzz to let you know you've pressed the button, is a pleasure to use, clean and easy to read, functional without being boring, while the way one rotates the homepage menu is a treat that I didn't tire of in a hurry.
There are a lot of phones on the market, but the Chocolate quietly stands out, which is much the best way in my book."

  • "The brand new Chocolate phone from LG is a super chic piece of design and an impressively sophisticated piece of technology. It's the fourth in the Black Label series of fashion phones from LG and this new lightweight, minimal, slimline handset redefines the meaning of discreet luxury. Its dark and mysterious looks only very subtly hint at what's on offer inside.
The new LG is small enough to fit into the tiniest handbag so it's perfect for a night out. (It's chocolate but it doesn't make you fat! - I'm there). Although it is superslim it still has a solid quality which feels great in the hand. Its scratchproof tempered glass also means it's robust enough to endure the hardest of knocks.
  • It's not however all stylish good looks and no substance - on the inside it's packed with an impressive array of bright and shiny new features: a huge 4 inch touchscreen display, a superior quality 5 megapixel camera with Schneider-Kreuznach lens and flash (perfect for uploading to your fashion blog), Wi-fi, FM transmitter and 335mb of internal memory. Landscape oriented emailing makes perfect sense and the full virtual QWERTY keyboard means it's really quick and easy to send emails. The impressive graphics really set this phone apart – its bright, simple but chic layout is really easy to read and makes navigation a breeze. The LG chocolate scores 10 out of 10 for looks, style and performance. It's a must-have."

  • "An elegant, slightly mysterious modernist sculpture, the new LG Chocolate caused gasps of envy from my fellow diners when I whipped it from my jacket pocket last Friday evening. The sleek, gloss-black obelisk (think Kubrick's 2001), topped and tailed with a flash of crimson, could have been born from the imagination of the late, great Bauhaus architect Mies van der Rohe - with a little styling help from Gucci-screen phone era Tom Ford.
The sexy elongated profile also allows the digits to be larger than the usual touch-screen phone - thus overcoming the common problem of having to possess fingers the size of an eight year-old child in order dial or text with any ease. Form truly following function.
  • When 'sleeping', the blacked-out LG has the allure of secret service man's limousine, but when woken, the graphic icons are bright, clear and legible. While the subtlety of the surface graphics adds to the effortlessly upmarket message.

Technology and aesthetics in perfect harmony"
